About Dose Escalation

Why Gradual Dose Increases?

GLP-1 medications use a titration schedule—starting at a low dose and gradually increasing—to help your body adjust and minimize side effects like nausea.

  • Reduces gastrointestinal side effects
  • Allows your body to adjust gradually
  • Helps find your optimal therapeutic dose

Important Reminders

  • Always follow your healthcare provider's specific instructions for dose changes
  • Inject on the same day each week, at any time of day
  • Your provider may adjust the schedule based on your tolerance
  • Do not increase your dose without medical guidance

Understanding GLP-1 Dose Escalation

All GLP-1 receptor agonists follow a dose escalation protocol designed to improve tolerability. Starting at a lower dose gives your gastrointestinal system time to adapt to the medication.

The most common side effects during dose increases include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. These typically improve as your body adjusts to each new dose level over 1-2 weeks.

Your healthcare provider may choose to extend any dose level if you're experiencing significant side effects, or may determine that a lower maintenance dose is appropriate for you. Never change your dose without consulting your provider.

Consistency is key—try to inject on the same day each week. If you miss a dose and it's been less than 5 days, take it as soon as possible. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on schedule.
